East-Timor: Trade Profile
East Timor is open to foreign trade. As a fact, the country’s trade policy has as a priority the development of trade relationships with Indonesia and other regional countries like Malaysia and Singapore.
Customs duties are low in East Timor. The country has an easy access and does not impose any trade barriers. The factors that limit foreign trade are: poor infrastructures, a weak development of its micro-finance, high interest rates in private banks and the lack of skilled labor force.
In spite that the trade balance is in deficit outside from oil and gas exports, the export of these two insure the country's trade balance surplus and it is expected to continue like that.
Its main trading partners are Southeast Asia, Australia and the United States.
