flag Grenada Grenada: Trade Profile

Foreign Trade in Figures

The country has an open economy, foreign trade representing more than 90% of the GDP. The trade policy aims at reviving exports by developing and enhancing competitiveness of the service and manufacturing sectors, and by diversifying agriculture. The government also wants to reduce the manufacturing costs of goods in the country. Customs duties are not very high. The country is easily accessible and as such does not have many trade barriers. CARICOM (Caribbean Community) member countries are given special treatment. Imports destined for government institutions are free of customs duty.

Factors such as the creation of a transparent and stable trading system, a streamlined regulation and tax incentives promote the development of trade in the country.

The country's economy is strongly dependent on imports in order to meet most of the populations' needs in terms of consumer goods. The balance of trade is negative and is expected to remain negative in the coming years.

The Grenada’s main trade partners are the United States, CARICOM and the European Union.
